Living a Life of Love
By Stephanie Nicole
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
Ephesians 4:32-5:1 (NIV)
It's a tall order, right? I mean, did you hear what they said? Did you see what she did? We have countless opportunities to be hurt by people. And when push comes to shove, and we're in the heat of hurt feelings and defending ourselves, we're usually not thinking of kindness, compassion and forgiveness. We're not thinking about how to imitate God - and live a life of sacrificial love like Jesus.
But our lives must be marked and changed by this kind of thinking and living.
Kindness and compassion matters. Forgiveness matters. And we’re called to imitate God and live that life of sacrificial love, whether we feel like it or not.
Boy, is it tough sometimes.
My prayer for us today is this: Lord, help us, even in those tough moments where our first inclination is to be selfish and defensive, to learn how to be kind, compassionate, forgiving, and to surrender to Your love so we can give Your love freely.
